Thunder Nipped by RubberDucks, 4-3
|
The Akron RubberDucks did just enough to sneak past the Trenton Thunder, 4-3, at Arm & Hammer Park. Akron pitcher Chris Huffstickler, in particular, had a standout performance. Kevin Mathison came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-3. The RubberDucks go to 18-52, putting them last in the Southern Division.
Phil Sproston drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for Akron. The 25-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With no one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Phil Martel. It was his 12th RBI of the season.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Trenton manager Pat Gilman.
