Chiefs Use Late Surge to Win
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Alberto Paredes into a win. Instead, the Syracuse Chiefs prevailed, 5-2. Paredes came in in relief and pitched to 29 batters. Lehigh Valley is now 12-14.

Manny Alas came through with a big-time hit for Syracuse. The designated hitter smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Alas told the Syracuse Bulletin: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
