The Reading Fightin Phils weathered a fine game by Richmond designated hitter Jon Martinez to upend the Flying Squirrels, 6-5, at The Diamond. Martinez was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Max Esparza snagged the win in relief. He goes to 3-1 on the season. Nate Parker suffered the loss. Johnny Tille earned the save for Reading, his 13th of the year.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Travis Wilson came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Richmond pitcher Nate Parker, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Reading on top, 6-5.

"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said Wilson. "Those qualities define our team."

The third-place Flying Squirrels now sit at 47-42.
