Fightin Phils Top Baysox, 7-6
|
The Reading Fightin Phils overcame a pretty good performance by Bowie right fielder Jose Nunez, beating the Baysox, 7-6, at FirstEnergy Stadium. Nunez went 2-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Nate Williams, the winning pitcher, is now 4-6. He went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 1. The Fightin Phils now own a record of 24-65.
Early in the game, left fielder Butch Kelley had a 2-run home run for Reading. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Fightin Phils on top, 4-3.
Fightin Phils manager Daniel Rapp wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
