Fightin Phils Get Hard-Earned Win
|
The Reading Fightin Phils overcame a good performance by Erie catcher Tony Magana to knock off Erie, 4-3, at FirstEnergy Stadium. Magana was 2-3 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. Franklin Gallardo snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Bryce Beasley suffered the loss. Their 35-57 record puts the Fightin Phils 5th in the Southern Division.
Had Joe Roche not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Roche hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Fightin Phils.
"Bottom line," said Erie skipper Toby West, "we didn't play well enough to win."
