Sea Dogs Handled by Richmond, 2-1
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Richmond Flying Squirrels eventually prevailed.
In a low-scoring affair between the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Portland Sea Dogs, pitcher Franklin Diaz was the difference between victory and defeat. The Richmond right-hander earned accolades in the 2-1 Flying Squirrels win. Diaz, now 6-4, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Charlie Fleet was credited with the save for Richmond, his 24th of the season.
The Flying Squirrels got a big at-bat from right fielder Craig Knopp. For the game, Knopp went 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 14th double of the season gave Richmond a 2-0 lead.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Portland manager Ben White, "let me know."
Richmond is now 58-36, while Portland is 41-52.
