The Altoona Curve had to overcome a fine effort from Reading pitcher Victor Perea to win, 3-2, at FirstEnergy Stadium. Perea went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Jared Birdwell snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-2 on the season. Miguel Mota suffered the loss. Earning the save was Corbett Healy. He's now cashed in 14 of 20 save opportunities.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Tomas Voivodic? The 21-year old first baseman Voivodic stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put Altoona up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Voivodic said.
The Curve now own a record of 39-56.
