RubberDucks Lose Late, 4-1
|
The Altoona Curve took Akron pitcher Morgan Dunphy's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Canal Park. The final score had Altoona getting past the RubberDucks, 4-1. Dunphy went 7 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 9. Altoona reliever Pat Maye, who is tied for 7th in the EL in wins with 10, was credited with the win. His record goes to 10-3. Billy Harp took the loss for Akron. The Curve raised their record to 68-38.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Sam Garrett? The 22-year old left fielder Garrett stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Altoona up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Akron manager Juan Nunez. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
