Flying Squirrels Drop Yard Goats, 4-1, with Late Score
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels knocked off the Hartford Yard Goats, 4-1, in Eastern League action at The Diamond. Richmond pitcher and Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native Justin Gage had an outstanding performance. Jamie Estrella picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 7-8. Alvaro Jimenez, who is tied for 10th in the EL in holds with 4, was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Flying Squirrels upped their record to 67-48.
Ryan McClure, who leads the EL in hits with 132, aided the Richmond cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman went 1 for 3 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Hartford manager Jerry Jones. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
