The Altoona Curve withstood a good performance by Portland center fielder Steve Slaughter to knock off Portland, 5-4, in 10 innings. Slaughter went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. Randy Owen, who is tied for 3rd in the EL in saves with 19, was the winner in relief. His record is now 9-3. The losing pitcher was Tyler Ropson. Altoona currently is in second place in the Southern Division at 73-46.

The game reached a climactic end in the bottom of the tenth. With Altoona trailing 4-3, Ryan Jackson delivered the decisive blow, stroking a fastball from Tyler Ropson for a 2-run double. Ballgame.
