In a low-scoring contest, Altoona pitcher John Schmitz was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 3-1 win. The winner was Altoona reliever Antonio Cruz, now 3-6. The loser was Alex Gomez. The loss makes Akron 52-68.
Altoona took the lead, 3-1, on Mario Arevalo's 11th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Akron pitcher Alex Gomez in the bottom of the eighth.
"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Schmitz.
