Altoona left-hander Dave Whaley helped his team edge Richmond by the score of 2-1. Whaley kept the opposing lineup in check. Bobby Delgado, credited with the win, is now 9-12. He allowed no runs on no hits. Sean Lenz earned the save for Altoona, his 7th of the year.
The outcome might have been different for Altoona, had it not been for Joe Williams, the 22-year old first baseman . Williams stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Altoona up, 2-1. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said Richmond manager Matt Bent.
The triumph makes Altoona 42-78.
