Richmond Tacks 2-0 Loss on Akron
|
Akron wasted a solid 7.2-inning effort from starting pitcher Alexis Espinoza, losing to Richmond, 2-0, at The Diamond. Brad MacDonald, the winner, improved to 5-12. He held the RubberDucks to no runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Earning his 1st save for Richmond was Jason Cranford.
The Flying Squirrels got a big at-bat from left fielder Roland Meyer. For the game, Meyer went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Richmond a 1-0 lead.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Richmond manager Fernando Melendez.
The Flying Squirrels improved their record to 57-65 by beating Akron.
