Mets Roll Over Flying Squirrels, 9-1
|
Richmond had no answer for Binghamton Mets starter Harry Sommer, who flummoxed Flying Squirrels hitters as the Mets cruised to victory, 9-1. Sommer, now 6-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 10, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Nick Ortega, credited with the save, is now 2 for 4 in save opportunities.
The Mets got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Jared Rauch. For the game, Rauch went 1-1 with a double, while adding 3 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 6th double of the season gave Binghamton a 4-1 lead.
"It's easier to pitch when you get run support," said Sommer.
At 62-61, the Mets are currently 4th in the Northern Division.
