The Portland Sea Dogs bested the Richmond Flying Squirrels by a score of 5-4, with third baseman Wilfredo Garza getting the main credit. On the day, Garza went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Sea Dogs. Manny Esparza went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. The left-hander struck out 7 and walked 1. With the win, he ups his record to 3-4 this season. Picking up the save was Oktyabr Iashvili. He's now 8 for 12 in save chances.

With Portland trailing 4-2 in the top of the fifth, Garza hit a curveball from Jonathan Bates for a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Sea Dogs ahead, 5-4.

"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Garza.

At 64-68, the Sea Dogs find themselves in last place in the Northern Division.
