Gwinnett 4-1 Win Hard-Earned
|
The Columbus Clippers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Ivan Espinosa into a win. Instead, the Gwinnett Braves prevailed, 4-1, in 11 innings. Espinosa threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Jonathan Ramirez claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4.2 innings. His record stands at 2-0. Gwinnett is now 20-11, Columbus 14-15.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Clemente Soledade came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Columbus pitcher Chris Nieves, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Gwinnett on top, 3-1.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said Columbus manager Dan Goldthwaite.
