The Richmond Flying Squirrels got a stellar effort from pitcher Ossie Cabrera, helping Richmond score a win over the visiting Binghamton Mets, 5-1. The 78-55 Flying Squirrels lead the Northern Division by one game.

The Mets had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Flying Squirrels going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old first baseman Nate Strother came to the plate. Strother hit a 2-run double on a 1-2 changeup from Binghamton hurler Joe Case. It was Strother's 27th double of the year.

Cabrera said afterward that "winning is the goal."
