Richmond Wins Pitchers' Duel, 2-1
|
The Diamond was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
Richmond Flying Squirrels starter Ethan Sanders was on his game, helping his team beat the Altoona Curve, 2-1. Sanders got the win, improving to 7-4. He gave up 8 hits and walked 1 over 8.2 innings. He allowed 1 run.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Flying Squirrels had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when second baseman Brian Fletcher hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Edwin Colomer and made the score 1-0, Flying Squirrels. Fletcher was 1-3 with a walk.
"Ethan set the tone," said Fernando Melendez, the Flying Squirrels manager.
Richmond is now 64-73. Altoona is 75-62.
