The Portland Sea Dogs got a rain-soaked win over the Reading Fightin Phils.

The Portland Sea Dogs got a stellar effort from pitcher Mike Sherwood, helping Portland score a win over the visiting Reading Fightin Phils, 3-2. Nelson Devora snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season.

The decisive blow was delivered by John Schwartz in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 23-year old right-handed pitcher Mike Ruiz to win the game for Portland. The home crowd went nuts.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Portland manager Dennis Owens said.

The Sea Dogs now own a record of 61-76.
