Kevin Sturm was a major factor in the 9-5 Portland win over Akron. The Sea Dogs third baseman was 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 4 times and driving in 4. Portland reliever Brett Hinders was the winner. His record is now 6-5. Dave Christie took the loss. Portland occupies third place in the Northern Division at 69-69.

La Romana, Dominican Republic-born Angel Gonzales came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and the Sea Dogs trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Portland on top.

"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Sturm.
