The bats were silent much of the day at Hadlock Field. But 23-year old left fielder Vinny Bezanson produced just enough offense to carry the Fightin Phils past the Portland Sea Dogs, 3-2. Bezanson went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was Franklin Gallardo. He's now 3-7. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits for the Fightin Phils. Reading, at 42-98, occupies last place in the Southern Division.

Bezanson had an important at-bat with a runner on 1st in the top of the sixth, when he hit a 2-run home run. The Fightin Phils went on to win.

"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Fightin Phils manager Daniel Rapp.
