Syracuse got a first-rate effort from pitcher Edwin Figueroa, who frustrated Pawtucket hitters en route to a 2-1 Chiefs triumph at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse reliever Jesus Chavez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Allen Reeves. The Chiefs sit in first place in the North Division with a record of 19-14.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 1-1, shortstop Kevin Lyons won it for Syracuse. With the bases loaded, Lyons hit a 2-0 fastball from Allen Reeves for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 2-1 win.

"We'll savor this win," Figueroa told the Syracuse Observer, "then get ready for the next game."
