Nationals Lose 8-6 Decision to Billings
The inspired effort of Washington (Rk+) designated hitter Chris Kane was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-6, to the Billings Mustangs. Kane went 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk. The win went to Ryan Holland in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Rich Pruneda took the loss. Scott Morton locked down his 1st save.

Had John Michael not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Michael hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Mustangs.

"Nice to get this one," said Michael. "We've been scuffling."

The win brings the Mustangs to 3-7, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
