Volcanoes Handle Reds, Grab 7-4 Win
|
The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes beat the Cincinnati (SS-A) Reds, 7-4, at Volcanoes Stadium. The win was due in part to right fielder Quinn Towles, who was 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Abraham Cerdan, who threw 90 pitches over 5.2 innings. The left-hander was charged with 4 runs on 5 hits. Nick Robbins earned the save for Salem-Keizer, his 1st.
Justin Graham had a big bases-clearing double for the Volcanoes in the bottom of the first inning. With Salem-Keizer leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Ryan Garrett and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Volcanoes ahead, 4-0.
"They beat us fair and square," Cincinnati (SS-A) skipper Kyle Macholl said.
The win puts Salem-Keizer at 2-2.
