Mustangs SS Gillett Gets the Cycle
|
Nick Gillett was jubilant as the Billings Mustangs left the field with a win, 13-4, over the Chicago (Rk+) Cubs. He had every right to be.
The 21-year-old shortstop hit for the cycle at Harbingers Ballpark, had a 4-for-6 game and added 4 RBI and 2 runs to boot.
"It's too bad I can't do that every day," Gillett said with a smile to reporters after the game. "It would do wonders for my batting average."
Billings manager Jon Koehn was "proud" of the shortstop's feat, but was not expecting it to happen.
"Cycles are tough because triples are tough," the skipper said. "As soon as the ball left the bat on that triple, guys were jumping off the bench for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to be able to leg it out."
Nick Gillett grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Jacopo Figura in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and tripled in the 9th.
Thus far this season in 14 games, Gillett is batting .265 with 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has 13 hits in 49 at-bats.
