Despite a fine performance by second baseman Nick Minford, the Washington (Rk+) Nationals lost to the Orem Owlz, 5-4. Minford was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. The win was credited to 20-year old right-handed pitcher Melchor Duran in relief. His record improves to 1-0. David Flores took the loss. The first-place Owlz sport a record of 25-19.
The Owlz got a big at-bat from designated hitter Efrain Acosta. For the game, Acosta was 2-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 7th double of the season gave Orem a 4-3 lead.
In comments to the Orem Chronicle, Acosta admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
