Win Lifts Red Sox to 19-16
|
Starting pitcher John Brooke was a major factor in the 5-0 Pawtucket Red Sox triumph over the Syracuse Chiefs. Brooke, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 9 and giving up 1 walk. The save went to Joe Colson, his 1st this season.
Tony Vargas, who is tied for 6th in the IL in home runs with 7, contributed to the Pawtucket win with a 2-run single in the bottom of the second. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"This team's hitting on all cylinders," said Red Sox manager Philip Vasquez.
The third-place Red Sox now have a 9-game winning streak.
