Alfonso Torres pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Missoula Osprey, despite Torres's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Portland Tigers at Hackers Ballpark. Earning his 1st save of the year was Rich Maldonado. Portland, with the win, is 7-14.

The Osprey had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Tigers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old third baseman Steve Owen came to the plate. Owen hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch fastball from Missoula hurler Alfonso Torres. It was Owen's 2nd home run of the year.

"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Portland manager Jeff Mills.
