Braves Squeeze By Vancouver, 3-2
|
Starting pitcher Mario Santiago gave the Atlanta (SS-A) Braves a rock-solid effort. The Valencia, Venezuela native helped his team defeat the Vancouver Canadians, 3-2, at Nat Bailey Stadium. Tim Iniguez was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Ezequiel Venegas. Edwin Aguilar picked up the save for Atlanta (SS-A), his 1st of the year.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Dave Duell? The 23-year old first baseman Duell stroked a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Atlanta (SS-A) up, 2-1. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Vancouver manager Chris Jeffreys. "We just didn't cash in."
Atlanta (SS-A) sits at 7-3.
