Portland got a terrific performance from pitcher Mike Sherwood, but it wasn't enough to beat the Akron RubberDucks. Akron won the Canal Park contest, 5-4. Sherwood threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Akron pitcher Dan Lash got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tyler Ropson got the loss. Akron now has a record of 4-6.

The decisive blow was delivered by Jon Schulte in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off 23-year old left-handed pitcher Tyler Ropson to win the game for Akron. The home crowd went nuts.

"The crowd was juiced," said Schulte.
