Smokies Done In By Barons, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring contest, Birmingham pitcher Jorge Gomez was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 2-1 win. Birmingham is now 33-30.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Barons had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the sixth, when third baseman Steve Hostler hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Ricky Salazar and made the score 2-1, Barons. Hostler was 1-3.
"Jorge never lets off the gas," said Birmingham manager John Ware. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
