Travelers Lose Contest, 5-2
Springfield pitcher Jamie Ward had a large part in his team subduing the Arkansas Travelers, 5-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The Travelers fall to 11-14 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2111 season.

Mike McDowell had a big 2-run double for the Cardinals in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Springfield leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Ruben Perez, who is tied for 3rd in the TEX in complete games with 1, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 4-1.

"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," McDowell told a Springfield News reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
