Cardinals Take Down Drillers, 4-3, in 10
|
Ricky Nieto did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Tulsa Drillers from losing, 4-3, to the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field. Nieto went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. Danny Ferguson, now 2-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The last-place Cardinals lifted their record to 12-23.
The knockout blow came in the bottom of the tenth inning. That's when designated hitter Alex Carranza stepped to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd and hit a run-scoring single, to win the ballgame.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said Springfield manager William Case.
