The Frisco RoughRiders beat the Springfield Cardinals, 4-3, at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. Juan Areas, in particular, was impressive. He went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to 24-year old right-handed pitcher Stephen Smith in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Xavier Clayton took the loss. Christopher S Humphreys closed it out for Frisco, earning his 2nd save.

Areas had a timely hit for Frisco in the bottom of the eighth. With Frisco trailing 3-1, he turned a first pitch splitter into a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season, making it 4-3, Frisco.

Springfield manager Tom King said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.

With the win, Frisco has a record of 30-55. Springfield falls to 46-39.
