Cardinals Beat Missions in 11
|
Springfield starter Jonas Miranda pitched well against the San Antonio Missions at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-3. Springfield reliever Justin Scanlon got the win, raising his record to 2-2. Aubrey Pettey was tagged with the loss. Springfield is now 37-48.
Springfield used the timely hitting of Jamie Mertens to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cardinals on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Mertens attributed the win to his team's "hyper resolve."
