Drillers Beat Cardinals, 3-2
|
The Tulsa Drillers had to overcome a fine effort from Springfield pitcher Tim Payton to win, 3-2, at Hammons Field. Payton went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. The winner was Tulsa reliever Sean Edmonds, now 7-1. The loser was Tim Payton. The victory gives Tulsa a record of 57-39.
Jeremy Johnson had a big 2-run home run for the Drillers in the top of the third inning. With Tulsa leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 29-year old left-handed pitcher Tim Payton and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the Drillers on top, 3-0.
"The other side played a good game," said Springfield manager Tom King. "You tip your cap to them."
