Cardinals Snatch Late-Game, 2-1 Win
|
The Springfield Cardinals picked up a win at Dickey-Stephens Park, taking down the Arkansas Travelers, 2-1, in 10 innings. On the mound for Springfield was right-hander Tony Wise. He played a central role in the triumph. Springfield reliever Matt Helsen got the win, raising his record to 8-5. David Ferber was tagged with the loss. Cesar Garza notched his 2nd save in 3 chances.
Gustavo Ramirez had a direct impact on the outcome. Ramirez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put Springfield up, 2-1.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Springfield skipper Tom King.
The Cardinals now have a record of 55-48 with the win over Arkansas.
