Springfield pitcher Carlos Romero had a large part in his team subduing the Frisco RoughRiders, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The winning pitcher was Romero, now 3-2. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. With the victory, the Cardinals upped their record to 58-56.

Jarred DiSpirito had a big solo home run for the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Springfield leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Terry Penberthy and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the Cardinals on top, 2-0.

"We put together a nice win," DiSpirito said.
