Drillers Hand Missions 7-5 Loss
|
Despite a great performance by San Antonio center fielder Aaron Northup, the Tulsa Drillers defeated the Missions by the score of 7-5 at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. Northup slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Tim Basile, the winning pitcher, is now 4-3. He went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 3. The save was credited to Bill Pavek, his 16th.
Mario Vasquez drew 1 walk in 3 trips to the plate for Tulsa. The 26-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the fifth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Ben Johnson. It was his 15th walk of the season.
Vasquez said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
The Drillers, at 81-41, have a comfortable 19½-game lead in their division.
