Springfield Cardinals starter Shawn Esworthy turned in an exceptional performance against the San Antonio Missions at Hammons Field, resulting in a Springfield win, 4-1. Esworthy, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Raul Delgado nailed down his 7th save.
Brian MacNeil took San Antonio hurler Andy Grupp deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 3-run home run put the Cardinals on top, 4-1. In all, MacNeil had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said San Antonio manager Matt Pace.
The win makes Springfield 65-58.
