At Security Bank Ballpark, the Corpus Christi Hooks and Midland RockHounds were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Midland RockHounds starter Chris Miller found his groove in his team's 3-2 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks. Miller picked up the win for Midland, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 9-3. Jose Cortez earned the save for Midland, his 10th of the year.
Javier Lopez had a big 2-run home run for the RockHounds in the bottom of the third inning. With Midland trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Juan Ortiz, who is tied for 10th in the TEX in strikeouts with 128, and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the RockHounds on top, 2-1.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Miller said.
The second-place RockHounds improved to 64-62.
