Late Offense Lifts Arkansas to 5-1 Victory
|
The Arkansas Travelers knocked off the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, 5-1, in Texas League action at Dickey-Stephens Park. Arkansas pitcher and Fremont, California, native Joey Renner had an outstanding performance. Ernie Anderson picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. David Thibeaux suffered the loss. Arkansas is 54-78 and Northwest Arkansas, with the loss, 64-68.
Ben Abbott drove in one run for Arkansas. The 24-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off David Thibeaux. It was his 15th RBI of the season.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Arkansas skipper Bobby Pappas.
