Drillers Send Springfield Home with 4-2 Loss
|
The Tulsa Drillers picked up a win at ONEOK Field, taking down the Springfield Cardinals, 4-2. Starting pitcher Tyler Pitzer was a big reason why. Pitzer, now 8-5, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Mario Navarro notched his 26th save in 29 chances.
Jeremy Strickland had a big 2-run home run for the Drillers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Tulsa leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from 32-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Dugles and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 22nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Drillers ahead, 4-1.
Tulsa manager Nate Bouse was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The first-place Drillers are now 79-56, the Cardinals 73-62.
