Wilmington Rallies for 5-2 Victory
|
The Wilmington Blue Rocks picked up a win at Ed Smith Stadium, topping the Lynchburg Hillcats, 5-2. On the mound for Wilmington was left-hander Francisco Checa. He played a principal role in the triumph. The win went to Vinny Nieto in relief, making him now 2-1. Doug Vannette took the loss for Lynchburg. Lynchburg now has a record of 5-3.
The Blue Rocks benefited from a costly error in the top of the eighth. With Luis Aguilar at bat and Wilmington leading 3-2, the Lynchburg miscue allowed Wilmington to plate 1 and take the lead, 4-2.
"Francisco really held it together well," said Wilmington manager Bobby Clontz.
