Pelicans Claim Late Win
|
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Carolina Mudcats, 8-5, at Grainger Stadium. Charlie Cole was a standout performer for Myrtle Beach. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 2 he knocked in. Myrtle Beach reliever Jordan Garcia got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Tony Aguirre was tagged with the loss. With the win, Myrtle Beach boosts its record to 5-6.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Nick Van Curen came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Carolina pitcher Tony Aguirre, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Myrtle Beach on top, 6-5.
"I was hoping to make good contact," said Cole. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
