Pelicans Get Gritty, 3-2 Win
|
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans faced a tough opponent in Salem pitcher Manny Amaya, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium by a final score of 3-2. Amaya went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Jim Unknown, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Nick Kress got credit for the save for Myrtle Beach. It was his 3rd of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Myrtle Beach, had it not been for Danny Gaston, the 25-year old catcher . Gaston contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Myrtle Beach up, 3-2.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Gaston told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
The win gives Myrtle Beach a record of 8-7.
