Mudcats Drop Clunker, 14-1
|
The Winston-Salem Dash trumped the Carolina Mudcats, 14-1, at Grainger Stadium. Winston-Salem second baseman Francisco Quinto was terrific. He went 2-4 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs. Angelo Trejo, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 2-1. Luis Fernandez earned the save for Winston-Salem, his 3rd of the year.
Bronson Gray had a big 2-run double for the Dash in the top of the third inning. With Winston-Salem leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Josh Mullen and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Dash ahead, 5-0.
"If we keep hitting the ball well, the wins will pile up," said Winston-Salem skipper Sam Simmons.
The win moves Winston-Salem to a record of 14-12.
