The Salem Red Sox found a way to sneak past the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 2-1, in 10 innings. Salem pitcher Carlitos Anoio, for one, had a standout performance. The Pelicans, now 9-17, continue their inauspicious start.

Salem used the timely hitting of Ernie Damon to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Valentino Garzelli.
