Blue Rocks Nip Dash, 4-3

The Wilmington Blue Rocks defeated the Winston-Salem Dash, 4-3, in Carolina League action at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium. Wilmington pitcher Alex Lara had a standout performance. Vince Schmidt snagged the win in relief. In 2 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on no hits. He's now 3-1 on the season. Winston-Salem has now lost 4 consecutive games.
In the bottom of the eighth, Wilmington designated hitter Gabe Shepherd put his team on top. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit his 2nd home run of the year. Winston-Salem pitcher Derek Upchurch served it up. Just like that, the Blue Rocks were ahead, 4-3.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Wilmington manager Bobby Clontz.
