Red Sox Pick Up 3-1 Win Against Frederick
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Salem Red Sox and Frederick Keys.
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Salem Red Sox and the Frederick Keys. Salem won it, 3-1. Salem starter Mike Paulson was in command. Paulson, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 1 walk. Elliott Wilgus was credited with the save for Salem, his 10th of the season.
Nick Shepard had a big run-scoring double for the Red Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Salem leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Steve Oliver, who is tied for 5th in the CAR in innings pitched with 51.1, and swatted a double to center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 2-0.
"Every loss stings," said Frederick manager Jeremy Smejkal. "This one is no exception."
The victory gives the Red Sox a record of 19-17.
